Wedding Day hits the Lady Highlanders

Yes, the day has come and gone and I am now officially married. My wife, Julie, and I were married on May 20, 2006 in Boiling Springs, PA. It is now Tuesday and we are back in Radford working on getting the house ready and our dog, Reddick, acclimated to his new home. So far, everything is going very well. We are busy running around town shopping and trying to get everything unpacked. You never really realize how much junk you have until you move. Then multiply that by two and good night there is a lot of stuff.

Let me give you a quick intro to both Julie and Reddick. My wife Julie is originally from Gettysburg, PA and is a graduate of Penn State. She has worked designing leadership programs and with Parelli Natural Horsemanship. She is a huge basketball fan and is looking forward to cheering on the Lady Highlanders next season! My dog Reddick is a Lab/Great Dane mix. He is one years old and weighs about 60 pounds. He is a big kid and a lot of fun.

Keep checking us out and we will be seeing you this summer. Until next time...

"We about Business" - Shavon Earp's thoughts

Hello everyone. This is Shavon Earp. I am a senior at Radford. I graduated this past spring with a degree in Communication and I am very excited for what's to come in my future. I will be back to play next year and I am excited. This summer I plan on working hard to strengthen my skills. I want to win the Big South so bad and I am going to do what is needed for us to do so. I know everyone wants RU to get back to the dominating program it used to be and we have the coaches, players, and personnel to get this done. Next year will be an exciting one and I hope everyone will come out to support us. We are about business. I just want everyone to know that I am going to do what is needed and so are my teammates and coaches.

Last week, we were excited to announce the signing of Charron Leaper, a 6-0 post player from Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Charron averaged 15.6 points per game and 9.6 rebounds per game in her senior season at Shaw High School. We look forward to having her on campus and in a Radford uniform next Fall.

The RU softball team hosted the Big South Conference Championship Tournament last week and we were out to support them Thursday through Saturday as they made a run to win it all. Coach Pulliam and I along with Mike, Coach Porter's husband caught most of the action and made our opinions heard when the umpire blew a call at third base that changed the momentum of the game. What can I say, we really get into whatever game we're watching. I guess that just comes with being competitive. With all that said, they lost on a walk off homerun in the bottom of the 8th inning of the championship game. They gave it all they had and we are very proud of the successful season they had representing RU athletics.

The first session of summer school starts today and we'll have a few of the girls around the office later this week to post their thoughts on their classes and how their summer workouts are going. I can't wait to hear about that myself.

Next Level Camp Summer 2006

NEXT LEVEL summer camp registration is now open. This year's dates are Saturday, June 17th - Wednesday, June 21st. The camp is open to young ladies ages 9 up through high school seniors.

A typical day at camp includes waking up in the dorms, breakfast in one of the cafeterias on campus, drills taught by RU coaches with skills demonstrated by current RU players, individual competitions and games, optional pool time, team practices, lectures, and finally 5-on-5 games. Resident campers end the night with time to relax and hang out with RU players in the dorms.

Wow...that makes me exhausted just thinking about it. Camp is always an exciting time but makes us all very tired by the end. Hopefully campers get a sneak peak of what it's like to be a Lady Highlander and play basketball on the Next Level. We are very excited about the caliber of players that have already shown interest in camp this summer. This may turn out to be the best camp we've had at RU. If any of you are interested, you can print a brochure from the RU website. http://ruhighlanders.com Click on the camps link from the women's basketball page. We look forward to seeing you at camp!

This is RU Women's Hoops
DAY ONE. Welcome to the official online journal of Radford University Women's Basketball. The plan is to post entries a few times per week so that fans, alumni, recruits, and family can get an inside look at the daily life of RU women's hoops. Mostly it will be me, Jana Ashley, posting my thoughts, but I will also have the other coaches as well as many of the young ladies on our team post thoughts and pictures periodically. I hope you find this informative and entertaining. Follow us from now until next March as we take steps towards winning a Big South Conference Championship and returning to the storied tradition that is Radford University Women's Basketball.
